Hi!
This is an email to let you know that Exploring Self is metamorphosing. (Oooh, ahhh!)
In short, my blog still exists, but the majority of my writing will be sent to you via this newsletter. It’ll make sharing, commenting, and community building a lot easier.
This newsletter will be sent out on Wednesdays, though I haven’t quite decided if it’ll arrive weekly or bi-weekly. If you’d like to weigh in, here’s a poll:
“But what will this new format look like?!” you ask, scrolling desperately, hands trembling uncontrollably.
Calm down, dude. Here’s what you can expect:
What is Exploring Self?
Exploring Self is the documentation of my journey toward self-fulfillment. The essays I publish here on Wednesdays range from personal stories of healing to creative writing to expansion on random thoughts, usually with the aim of better understanding myself and the world. I’m especially interested in how our lives are shaped by outside influences — societal expectations, who others think we are, and often, who we think we “should” be. What does it really mean to unravel our lives from outside influences? And is reaching self-actualization — the complete self-fulfillment of our potential, abilities, and appreciation of life — even a thing?
In addition to the weekly essay, paying subscribers will get access to two additional emails: A Kind of Tomorrow, and occasionally, Too Deep for the Intro. These subcategories are still a work-in-progress and will remain unpaid until I’ve figured my shit out — lucky you!
What is A Kind of Tomorrow?
A Kind of Tomorrow is a monthly interview series centered on thoughtful conversations with power and weight. I interview an amalgam of people — artists, the elderly, friends, strangers — with the aim of unveiling life’s deeper truths. How do we think about the ever-elusive “tomorrow”? As a human species, what future are we really working toward? Does thinking too much about tomorrow take away from our present lives? I also ask much less existential questions like: What are you having for lunch tomorrow? or What’s something upcoming that you’re looking forward to?
What is Too Deep for the Intro?
Too Deep for the Intro is a monthly series of book reviews. I discuss the books, and/or excerpts from books, that left me reeling. Think: A deep dive into why Toni Morrison’s Love may actually be about the complexities of hatred, or, an analysis of the satire on race in The Sellout by Paul Beatty. #Deep
And that’s that!
If there are any topics that you’re interested in reading about, or any feedback you have in general, please let me know!
See you Wednesday — xx,
